Okinawa Diet
I was searching on boston.com for Sasha Cohen results in the Olympic figure skating long program. Below the article about Sasha was an ad that read “Sasha Cohen’s Diet Secret”. I clicked on the link and it brought me to an ad for Okinawan tea. I read on to find that the people of Okinawa have the highest percentage Centenarians in the world.  They were attributing the high life expectancy to the fact that the “people of Okinawa consume more tea, per capita, than ANY other population in the world”. The skeptic in me decided to do some research before I dished out 40 dollars for 60 tea bags filled with miracle tea that would rid me of all my health problems, make me thin, and keep me alive to 100 years of age and possibly beyond. After all I need to do something drastic, I’m already due to die at the ripe old age of 80.6 years according to livingto100.com. Â
According to my research, it was originally believed that the higher-than-average life expectancy was due to the high content of coral-calcium in the water.  Yet further studies show that Okinawans consume less calcium than that of their Western counterparts.
According to the Okinawan Program the key to their longevity is due to “a low-calorie, plant-based diet, regular exercise, a strong spiritual commitment and a positive outlook on life”.Â
From the author of the Okinawan Program:
A typical Okinawa diet includes seven servings of vegetables and fruit a day; seven servings of grains a day, two servings of soy products; fish several times a week and minimal dairy products and meat.
Exercise in Okinawa tends to be activities that connect the mind and body. “In Okinawa, they are not into a fitness regimen. They do hobbies. They do these things because this is what they’ve always done.” Their daily activities include traditional dance, karate and a lot of walking. They also partake in strenuous gardening, which makes them feel one with nature.
Spirituality is a strong force in Okinawa. “They pray almost daily in their homes” where they have altars and make offerings to their ancestors.
Â
Finally, they lead relatively stress-free lives.Â
After reading this, I am less skeptical about Okanawan Diet and way of life, however, I still don’t think I can afford $40.00 for the tea, unless I give up buying my morning coffee for a month - yeah like that’s going to happen!Â

Don’t tell me you paid $5 for that life expectancy calculator thingy. Heck I’d have at least taken your 5 bucks, told you you were going to live to 80 and bought you a coffee after …
Hi al,
No I didn’t pay $5.00 for the life exptectancy calculator. They’ve must have started charging for it. Previously it was free!!

I have been researching this tea, and everthing I’ve learned so far is impressive. I ordered the tea today. Looking forward to long jevity.
Best,
SD
Hi Sharon,
On July 15, you stated you ordered the Okinawan tea. Have you had any results yet? I am very, very excited to find out what happened with your consumption of this tea. Thanks!
Or has anyone out there used this tea? Please let me know.
-Roseanna
I’m right there with you Rose…what were the results
oh and the calculator is free
It’s not the tea, it’s the lifestyle. Everything I’ve read about this or Wu Long (oolong) tea says the same thing: Participants who did the best changed their lifestyle. Participants who saw some, but minimal results, were loosing water weight from increasing their fluid intake. If you want good health, long life, stop eating the “american diet” and start eating whole, real foods
It’s simple, and yet not simple, you know? Things to see: “Super Size Me,” “The Future of Food,” “What the Bleep Do We Know,” and things to read “The Crazymakers,” by Carole Simontacchi; “Ultrametabolism,” by Dr. Mark Hyman, and “Ishmael,” and “Beyond Civilization,” both by Daniel Quinn. These items will bring together THE BIG PICTURE for you. Enjoy. All films and books engrossing, almost guaranteed!
I recently found out about this Tea and so i did some research, and what i found was that everyone that posts something about it and says they are going to try it, they never reply back….so my guess is it’s either really good and they don’t wanna say and are probably looking and feeling better therefore have no more time to play on the internet or….. otherwise…but if anyone reads this plz reply back and tell me what your “tea experience” was like! Thanks! Stacey!
My girlfriend saw the literature and decided to buy it. It’s being shipped. I’ll try it with her, I’ll post our results. I’m a skeptic. So if weight loss is the subject, has anyone ever tried Hoodia Goroni, I believe that’s what its called. I saw a special about it on 60 minutes a while back and they made all sorts of claims that it was so phenominal. I’ve never really been “over weight” I exercize often, my diet varies often, sometimes up sometimes down, but it’s become a source of interest w/ my girlfriend. and since she wants to try the tea. I wondered if the hoodia was for real.
i tried the hoodia. i bought the very best i could find, liquid, super guaranteed, etc. i tried it for a month with no results. i took the maximum amount and was the same hungry i always was. supposedly it majorly dampens your appetite, but i didn’t notice much. an appetite suppressant that worked a little better for me was gena-slim. you can get it at any health food store. but i’ve just ordered the tea and hope to kick up my exercise regime. i’ll let you know how it goes. if i don’t feel results fast i’ll be sending it back for my refund like i did with the hoodia.
The Okinawan Tea site to which you refer, is NOT associated with The Okinawa Diet in any way. Nor is it associated with the Okinawan Centenarian Study or the books The Okinawa Program and The Okinawa Diet Plan, all of which are from the same group of doctors and scientists who studied the Okinawan healthy longevity phenomenon.
The “ancient Okinawan tea” to which you refer is nothing but ordinary Jasmine tea you can buy at your local grocers. The only thing special about this tea is that it is infringing on the research and copyrighted materials of the Okinawa Diet creators.

The Okinawan Tea DOES work very well. I started out with the tea about 4 weeks ago. I’m only about 30lbs overweight and have been a very snug size 10 pants, 12’s fit very well.
Since drinking the tea, size 8’s are snug, size 10’s are loose, 12’s require belt. My face thinned out, as did my arms (upper and lower), shoulders and collar bone, thights and rear-end.
I believe that the only altering of my diet was a result of drinking the tea. It really has amazed me and I just ordered more tea. I didn’t just get the Okinawan Tea, though. I did some research among credible sites and Wu-long (Oolong) teas do the same thing. You can find cheaper teas on other web-sites if you take the time to look around.
It’s worth it to give it a try, but be consistent and drink it two times a day with breakfast and lunch. If you don’t drink it consistently, you may not see results.
Come on people! Are we still looking for a magic cure?? There is none. If you want to lose weight, start eating healthy (nothing too fatty, too salty, too sweet) and exercise every day (yes, every day!). Our bodies are used to a 24-hour cycle, so fitting your workout in this cycle is the right thing to do. Also - the best beverage for losing weight - and I am saying this from years of experience - is WATER. Drink 500 ml of water BEFORE every meal; 2 litres altogether a day.
As for Okinawa tea, it’s probably a great thing, as all other teas - lots of nutrients and antioxidants … And, it will probably help you to lose weight, but only together with all other things …
Guys, lets give it a chance. I agree that you need to change the way you eat, exercise etc. There are other factors together with the tea that make these people live to 100+. I’ve been waiting on my order, I am now size 14, so i’ll let you know what’s my size one month from when I start.
i think we should give it a go, because there has been so many good results that it must work.
the only down side is you have to use a credit card or some other type of card to get it
Myself and my collegue have been trying the tea’s for a couple of days now. We have not seen any dramatic results as yet but we are starting to feel like we are more full off energy. We will let you know if we have any queries.
Many thanks
i think istead of ordering the tea…you should find out the ingrediants and make it yourself …it would most likely be cheaper.
I’ve been looking but i havent been sucessful so far
I wish someone would give a straight answer about this tea. I have researched it and everything I have found would be beneficial along with diet and exercise. What I want to know is do I spend the $40.00 on this tea.
Well I’m finally replying back we used the tea for about a week or 2, but really never changed our diets and then just stopped using it because we just got too busy and then majorly pigged out over the holidays. So no I really don’t know anymore about the tea. Maybe I’ll start using it again. Sorry for being such a poor subject.
this does sound really interesting.. i’m not really overweight, but I’m trying to eat healthy and stop eating so much.. i saw this tea advertised, but from reading all your comments, it doesn’t sound like anyone really knows if it works or not….
Hi All - just loged in a read this stuff about Green Tea.
I’ve just come abck from Nanning in South China, and they drink this green puke all the time - enven have great seramonies doing it (and the Tea). You can’t beat a strong cup of coffee to kick you into gear!! Having said all that… I always drink Green Tea when i wake up every morning. Not only is Hot water slipped gently good for the waking your digestive system and bowel etc (as per Grand Mum who told me) adding Green Tea which is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). “EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots”.
My advice for what it’s worth is: drink what ever you like!! but include Green Tea somewhere in your daily Diet!!
Regards - Tim
I just ordered the tea today! I have about 80 pounds to lose and am an avid tea drinker! I drink Green Tea everyday. I am on a diet but think that adding the tea can’t hurt. You spend more than $40.00 for junk why not try this. I’ll let you now after I receive it and give it a try!
Come on people are you crazy? There’s no way ANYTHING tea is going to make you lose that much weight.
If it does, it’s bad for you in some way and you’re probably ruining your health more by taking the supplement. It’s as simple as that.
Although tea is unbeatable for overall health and an aide for weight loss, it’s simply not going to “melt the fat off your body”
Losing weight the RIGHT way is just as important as losing the weight itself. Don’t try to cheat your body.

I just recently ordered the Okinawan Tea. This is my second day taking it. I am physically fit. I eat my fruits and vegetables every day. The only weight I need to get rid of is a little of the belly fat that just won’t go away……. I know that tea with green tree extract and ECGC is good for you, so since this one offered the weight loss also then why not see if it helps.
I am concerned that I might be able to get it cheaper through another brand of tea. Unfortunately when I got my shipment, there aren’t any ingredients listed??? Maybe they don’t want it copied. I am writing them now to find out what the ingredients are.
I will check back in and let you know how this is working for me.
Tina
Just bye green tea.
I’ve done a study on both tea’s.
Basically they both have the same benefits. Apart from GREEN TEA is a small faction of the price. Have as a balanced diet. I’ve lost all my excess body weight with normal Green Tea. I have a healthy 5% of fat on me.
Work out 5 days a week. No less, no more.
Hard work, but its well worth it.
Please do your research.
Hello Everybody,
In response to all the frenzy over “Okinawan tea”, the creators of the Okinawa Diet have started offering REAL Okinawan tea instead of the low grade jasmine tea these other sites are trying to pass off as “rare” Okinawan tea.
What is true in all the hype is that the Okinawan elders, who are world famous for being the longest-lived, healthiest population on the planet, do indeed drink large amounts of sanpin tea: a form of green tea with many health promoting properties.
The ONLY place to buy this tea is from this website: http://okinawaway.com
It is high quality, certified organic tea and is for sale at a fraction of the price sold on the scam sites (it sells for around the same price as other good quality organic teas found at your local grocers).
WARNING: many of the scam sites are imitating OkinawaWay.com to try to fool people into buying their tea. Look for the brand name “Okinawa Way”. If you don’t see it; don’t buy it.
OkinawaWay.com
My husband and I have been drinking this stuff for two weeks. We eat like we always do, exercise like we always do and I’ve GAINED 3 pounds! This Okinawan tea is a joke.
It is a type of partially fermented green tea, so my research tells me to go for the cheaper in your local store Oolong tea. Some of the components can stimulate fat metabolism and so you can lose weight. I’m going to try it and will get back to you!
Reading about this Okinawa (Magic) Tea has been enlightening … however, wouldn’t mixing ‘quality’ parts of Green Tea and Jasmine Tea have the same results as these New ‘Trendy’ Tea (s)? Would love a intellectual and informative response.
hi
i am living in sweden and i want to buy okinawan tea from here but there is no one who know what it is. so i have a question: okinawan tea is only this name or do it have another name?
plz answer me… thank u!
My sister referred me to a product from the slimstore called 5HTP. I started taking it this past week and it does help curve my appetite. I’m still exercising and watching my weight, but I don’t feel like I want to eat all of the time!!
Hi, I just bought it, and I’m only trying to lose 5-10 pounds. I’ve already lost 50 pounds in the last 17 months just by exercising, walking, trying to eat more home-cooked foods w/ 1/2 plate veggies & fruits, 1/4 plate meat/protein, and 1/4 plate starch/carbs.
After I’d lost just over 30 pounds, I couldn’t seem to lose any more, so I bought a book on detox fasting & lost 20 more pounds in 2 months by doing it “religiously” (3 day fasts 1x a month).
However, I’ve been trying to just lose the last 5-10 pounds of “baby-belly” (I’ve had 4 children, 3 in the past 5 years.). So, I’m going to give the tea a try…I started drinking it today. It tastes very much like what I’d expect flowers to taste like!!! A bit oily, and definitely not constipating LOL LOL. My oldest says it smells like perfume.
I’ll try to remember to post how it goes. Don’t forget different diets react differently to different people! (I’ve already come down from size 18 pants to size 12….I want to be a comfortable size 10 & a sexy 8 LOL).
I have been drinking okinawan tea for over a month now, cobined with a healthy diet and regular exercise and have had steady weightloss. This however could be due to my diet and exercise rather than the tea. who knows!
hi,
I recieved my tea estersay and oh my god the taste is unbearable, couldnt believe how bad it tastes. I have decided to try and take it twice a day. will get back to u and let u know if it works.
We have tried the tea for the full month without results. Definitely no reduction of jean size as was promised. Would like to take advantage of the money back guarantee however, cannot find an address to take advantage of their numerously repeated hype. Can anyone help.
Ok, Tonight is my weigh in. been taking the tea since last wednesday. will update you ll tomoro.
I started taking okinawan tea in feb. I lost 10 lbs along with little exercise and an ok diet. I wasnt sure if I had lost the weight because of the combination but I did not reorder the tea and I have a strickter diet and I exercise more and I havent been able to lose any more weight since then. so maybe the tea does really work afterall. I plan to reorder and I will get back to you in a month or so.
It is just Green Tea with Jasmine and can be purchased from most supermarkets for much less than these websites.
Once you get past the initial shock of the taste - not initially as comforting as your traditional cuppa! - you quickly become acustomed to it. I’ve had 3 - 4 cups each day for the past week and now genuinely enjoy and look forward to drinking it. Maybe your body learns to crave for things that are good for it too?!
It is high in anti-oxidants (great) and does help speed up your metabolism (even better for weight loss) - I have lost 2lbs this week. I do have a reasonably healthy diet and exercise but my weight has stayed fairly static now for a while. You do notice a definite change in your bowel movements as a result of drinking it.
The people it doesn’t work for perhaps already have a high metabolic rate anyway and therefore the tea isn’t going to boost anything - only less calorific intake / exercise would help their weight loss. Or maybe they are drinking the tea in addition to the normal (unhealthier) drinks they consume and are just further increasing their calorific intake ? Substituting an existing drink with the Green Tea is definitely a better idea. Less dairy than regular tea or that caffe latte!
I was very sceptical about this kind of thing but am now pretty convinced of the benefits… and unsurpised by the internet industry that has emerged in exploiting it with branding, packaging, promotion and over-pricing!!! Just get down to the supermarket or health store.
I purchase all my Okinawa tea from the eBay seller below - Service is fantastic and the tea is wonderful – Already lost 2 stone in weight!

I think Sara nailed it. On the head! Funny how we are the one of the richest countries in the world, yet we are eating artificial food. It’s the preservatives that our bodies wear. We can’t digest them, so we wear them. We have got to get away from High Fructose Corn Syrup and it’s evil cousins. My nephew went to Europe for a year, did not change his diet and lost 20 pounds. When he returned, he put it back on. Whole, natural foods without chemicals, and healthy living is the only way. There is no miracle out there. Or we could move to Europe!
I live here in Okinawa. Its not the Okinawa Tea, its eating the right way (natural and less salty). Okinawans eat plenty of vegetables, rice, noodles. They eat meat moderately. They even love pork here. The slow pace life here may contribute to their longevity. Most of the tea here comes from China. There’s a handful places here that sells Okinawan made tea. You go to some mamasan store or you visit local friends here, they just drink the regular tea. Its their eating habit and lifestyle that gives them the longevity.
Stress-free lifestyle, constant physical activities, nutritional foods, and regular tea drinking are 4 major factors that make these people so healthy and have high life-expectancy. It’s ideal to have all these factors but let’s face it, the first 2 are very difficult to acheive in modern life where there are so much competition in the work place. The 3rd factor we can sometimes control but not completely. However, drinking tea is something we can definitely do. It takes about 10 minutes a day if you want to brew a few cups of tea. But if you prefer instant tea, which is abundantly available in the market, it takes even less time than that. So we may not have all of the ideal factors like the Okinawans, but 2/4 factors aren’t bad.
