Am I prejudiced?

Posted at 8:48 pm under Uncategorized

My husband surprised me by renting Crash today.  We’ve been trying to cram in as many Oscar nominated movies before tomorrow night - Oscar night.  I can’t believe how many nominated movies I have yet to watch. Crash was of particular interest to me because Matt Dillon, my childhood crush, was nominated for an Oscar.  He plays a racist cop, but like in life, not everything is so black and white, no pun intended, sometimes there is grey.

I liked this movie, although the message I got, was that everyone is racist and there is no end in site to it, it runs full circle, yet somehow in the midst of all this negativity there is still some good in people.  At least that was the message the movie conveyed to me.

I’d like to think of myself as unprejudice, however, this movie implies that all people are, so rather than try to hide it, I figure I will publish a list of people I’m prejudice against:

1. People who don’t use their signal lights when driving.  I’m a born and raised city girl, and surprisingly I USE MY SIGNAL LIGHTS! Well, at least most of the time I use them unless I’m in a daze.

2. People who drive just North of the Hookset tolls in NH on 93, and then decide while driving 80 miles an hour in the far left lane, that when they see the big red NH State Liquor Store, that they need to cut across 3 lanes of traffic and almost kill people in the process while trying to get to it.  This has happened to me 3 times to-date in the past year and half.  The State Liquor Store HAS ALWAYS BEEN THERE, well at least since I can remember.  Just plan to stop at it and stay in the right lane.  You know you are going to stop, no need for hesitation or debate on the matter.  Please don’t kill me to get to it.  It’s not the Holy Grail. It’s just alcohol. Okay maybe that is an understatement!

3. People who slow down when driving, wait for me to get closer, then roll down their window and flick a cigarette under my car.  It is on purpose?  Are you aiming to ignite my engine and blow me up?  I have another suggestion when your annoyed that I may be following to closely in my car, STOP SMOKING AND DRIVE FASTER!

4. People who talk in movies.  There are monks who take vows of silence for years.  You can go for approximately 2 hours without talking, it will not hurt. Really! Sorry to my husband if this one hits home, you know I love you anyway.

5. People who tell me the end of the movie, the end of the book, the punchline of the joke, before I’ve seen it, heard it, or read it.  We’ve all put our foot in our mouths before and revealed something prematurely.  Just try to keep it to a minimum and don’t be upset if I warn you not to talk about it when the subject comes up.

6. Miami Dophin fans, NY Yankee fans, Montreal Canadian fans, LA Laker fans, Notre Dame fans, Pitt Panther fans, uh and whoever is BC’s rival these days? I’m still confused since they’ve left the Big East.  I love to hate all of you! If you know me, the reasons are obvious.

This list could go on forever, so I’ll quit now before I completely offend everyone I know.  Just one more group of people I’m prejudice against:

7. People, sox1fan.com, who brag about how many hits they’ve got on their blog in a single day!   Okay maybe this more jeolousy than prejudice, because my daily hits are in the single digits.  By the way, thanks to the nine people who’ve been reading my blog! If I haven’t yet linked to your blog, just pop me an email and I’ll do so.
