Ahhh… First Frappé of the season..
Â
Â
I had my first Nescafé Frappé of the season on Sunday, it was awesome! Nescafé Frappé is a Greek tradition. You wouldn’t think that instant coffee shaken up and poured over ice could be so good until you’ve had a couple, then you become addicted. Even my husband who is a non-coffee drinker perks his head up whenever I’m making one.  He joined me on Sunday for the first of the season. We were both in Nescafé Frappé heaven.Â
How do you make one? Well, the authentic way would be to first fly to Greece and bring back instant Nescafé coffee in a can along with an official Nescafé Frappé plastic shaker. Since your probably not going to fly to Greece you can buy it in a glass jar at any supermarket in the United States. However, Greeks will tell you that there is a flavor loss when the instant coffee isn’t coming from a can. I’m not that particular, the domestic glass jar instant Nescafé is fine for my taste. My cocktail shaker or blender also work just fine, I don’t need the official plastic shaker.Â
For a double frappé the mandymag way:
2 heaping teaspoons of instant Nescafé
3 teaspons of sugar (even if you don’t take sugar in your coffee, you may want to add a little - the instant coffee tends to be bitter).Â
Just under a cup of ice cold water (it cannot be room tempature, must be cold)
Skim milk to taste, that is if you take milk in your coffee (it doesn’t work as well with heavier milk or cream, skim milk works best. I use Simply Smart skim milk for a really good frothy head on my coffee.)
Throw it all in a blender for a minute and then pour it over ice in a tall glass with a straw. If you use the blender you will need to wait a minute or two before drinking it for it to properly separate into coffee separated from frappé head. Similar to photo above. Â
This drink is guaranteed to make the really hot mornings at home bearable and to give you enough energy to last an entire hot work day with no additional caffeine needed. It is a miracle drink!

Yes, I know.. Ah the painful price of divorce, no more Frappés or hash brown potatoes for you. Well now you have the frappé recipe! You can try to make it on your own, or you can always marry another Greek girl.
ps. stop with the naughty fake URI links. YOU ARE SO BAD!!! I’m trying to keep mandymag.com a nice blog, a family safe blog, think Disney.. Okay, I know that’s a load of crap, however, my collegues frequent my blog, so I request that you behave when visting here.
No Damn FUN!
Hi: I just got back from Crete and you must try a Frado Cafe which is much better. Rather than using the powered Nescafe it is made using espresso…becoming much more popular
