Don’t be Bullied into Blogging !

Posted at 6:12 am under Misc.

Don’t create a blog to share your expertise, ideas, and personal experiences in a categorized organzied easily read way!

Don’t establish yourself as an expert in your field or industry and become a resource for future development in your field!

Don’t receive invitations to conferences, lectures, and seminars!

Don’t store non-proprietary data that you need to access quickly on a regular basis!

Don’t help others in your industry by sharing concepts, ideas, success stories, and problem resolutions!

Continue to clutter mail inboxes with humor, photos, and experiences. Don’t put them on the web and allow family, friends, and collegues, to view these items when they have the spare time!

And please whatever you do, don’t earn a little money on the side to pay for your coffee habit and the occassional martini!

PLEASE DON’T LESS THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!

BEWARE OF BLOG BULLIES!

Okay enough with the sarcasim.  If you already a blogger and the question comes up “to blog or not to blog?” it doesn’t give you pause it really just makes you sad to hear the question.  I guess because you don’t need proof of concept, you’ve already experienced it.

My blog is fairly new and just starting to pick up momentum.  I had my best traffic day ever yesterday - with exactly 300 hits to my website.  I am thrilled, however, I’m humble at the fact that my husband, friends and collegues, generate anywhere from 1,000-40,000 hits a day to their blogs.

To me a measure of blogging success comes when I do searches on Google for terms that I blog about, particularly related to my profession, and I see articles from my blog showing up on the first couple of pages of the search, within the top 20 hits on google for that topic.  It means, in the words of my Director, that ”I’ve broken the fold.”

Still what gain is it to me? Is it worth my effort to spend 20 minutes every couple of days blogging?  Well when you recieve an email from the software company that makes the software that you use, and you have a vested interest in that software, and they tell you that they want to add a piece of functionality to the software and ask for your feedback on how it should be formulated - YES IT IS WORTH THE EFFORT!!

Thank you to my collegues who have bullied me into blogging! I appreciate it!
