GTalk / Google Talk availability message conversations in my office
So it was decided that when our MIS team were going to be split up amongst two different buildings, that we needed an instant messenger program to bridge communicatation with one another. Since many of our staff were already using Gtalk, the rest of us signed up for accounts. So one would think that chatting was an easy way to communicate with one another vs. having to pick up the phone or email someone. In our office we’ve taken it a step further - just communicate via our availability messages and avoid the chatting all together! It is a simple way for us to communicate our thoughts in 60 charaters or less, as well as display personal artwork and identities constrained into 90 x 90 pixels.
Below are two examples of Gtalk availability messages spotted in the office this morning.Â
Gtalk user / Availability Message (real usernames were not used for identity protection)
MÂ / PSS not BSS !
BÂ / Just SS! Why should end users know the B?
K / BSS by edict
Z / Edicts are only necessary when you can’t backup your position with proof..
Can you figure out what that was about?  It was a debate on what the real name of a Self Service software product we use is referred to or what it should be referred to. That debate took place solely on availability messages. No emails, no phone calls, no chat. HOW GREAT!!
Next conversation - Ready?
Gtalk user / Availability Message
DÂ / 33
LÂ / 26
A / 47
M / Who?
T / DBÂ me
MÂ / who cares T is legal drinking age that is all that matters!
D / What about me?
Did you figure that one out? Apparently, there was some confusion as to whose b-day it actually was and then speculation on this person’s age! Again this communication took place solely on availbility messages!
Happy birthday Dan !
