Gene Simmons Family Jewels - Finally !
So after balling my eyes out watching Dog and Beth get married and watching Dog deal with the shock of losing his daughter on the day of his wedding, it was nice to switch gears and watch the Gene Simmons new reality tv show on A&E.Â
At first I was skeptical that it wouldn’t be as colorful as other reality shows I’m hooked on. What was I thinking? This is Gene Simmons of KISS - the GOD OF THUNDER! How could his reality show be any less than great? Of course I’m completely biased when it comes to anything KISS related, but seriously, I giggled through the whole show.Â
Gene is a riot and his kids, although not as colorful or as combative as Jack and Kelly Osbourne, are still pretty entertaining.Â
Gene just rocks and I loved his band name idea for his son’s rock band -Â ”Search Engine”.Â
It was funny to see his son throw his Dad out of his bands’ practice space after Gene started to jam on the bass and drums. Can you imagine telling Gene that he is lame and to get out of your band’s practice room? How surreal is that?
I was only disappointed at one part of the first episode when Gene flies to Vegas for the opening of the Hooters Casino, during which what he thought was a lunatic fan stalking him turns out to be a women who wants to surprise her husband at their wedding because he is a huge KISS fan. Of course, because the cameras were rolling, Gene and his entourage of women hop in a limo and head to the chapel.Â
Albeit, the grooms face was priceless when Gene Simmons walked in escorting his bride-to-be down the isle, although I didn’t think that fan was worthy of Gene attending his wedding. He wasn’t in make-up or anything! If Gene was going to attend a wedding it really needed to be my friend Jon’s wedding. He was married a couple of summers ago - here is a picture that I took at the wedding of Jon and Jackie cutting their cake.Â

I think black and white captured the moment so nicely, don’t you?

A couple of observations on your blog:
1) Simmons may be the God of Thunder, BUT I am YOUR God of Rock’n'Roll
2) One of the BEST things about Family Jewels is that Nick and Sophie are NOTHING like the talentless, obnoxious and self-indulgent Osbourne brats! Thank God! They were understated and entertaining without being over-the-top and annoying — what a novel concept!
3) I loved Simmons’ reaction to the $2 Kiss tee-shirt
4) I am disappointed Gene did NOT invite me to join him at the Casino opening
and lastly
5) If I had been that brides father………………..
I wanted to like the show but it’s so lame and DESPERATE to make drama. For example, on one of the shows in the beginning he mentions how his day planner has everything in it, it’s better than the electronic ones, etc. This is called the setup in sitcoms. So guess what happens folks? Could it be he “loses” his day planner? How the hell could he “forget” it in a NYC cab, when he’s got at least a half dozen camera men, sound men and a producer riding with him with just about every shot being set up.
THEN he gets “lost” in Chinatown. Gene you dumbass, you grew up in NYC!
And then there’s the show where he comes in and there’s a black baby in his bed and his wife takes off and he acts all, “uh, I’ve got a baby. Look at me with baby food on my face.” And then they roll in a person from the adoption agency. Like no one in their right minds is going to ask for some credentials or call her on this b.s.
The show would be a lot better if they didn’t try to FORCE these dramatic moments on the viewer.
I think Family Jewels is the best. I like Nick and Sophie the best. You can tell Gene loves his family and that’s what I like. He’s arrogant on the outside but inside he’s a big teddy bear. But I don’t like him much since his face lift…he’s not as funny as he used to be.
Yes, I can imagine telling Gene Simmons that he is lame and to get out of my practice space.
I’ve heard of Gene Simmons …but who the hell is Jason Harrod?
