While glancing at the cover of a recent Hammacher Schlemmer catalog, I was puzzled by what I saw on the cover. What is it?

I wagered a guess that it was some sort of new kitchen gadget. Maybe it is a cereal bowl that has a soft boiled egg holder attached? So after I stared at the picture for a minute, I gave up guessing and peeked inside the catalog.

It is a portable wood-burning hot tub. Huh? Read it for yourself.

You can see how one would be confused without anything to scale it by. I can’t believe they didn’t think of putting in a yard and providing some tropical landscaping to try to sell it a bit more.

Let me try to take a stab at marketing it since the picture didn’t do it any justice:

“It only takes up to 2 1/2 hours to boil, I mean heat up, 200 gallons of water for you and three of your closest friends to simmer, I mean bathe together in non-chlorinated water contained within a polyester bowl, I mean hot tub. All this for only $5,999.95! Price of wood not included.”
