Write a will
So this may sound a bit morbid, but my husband and I wrote our wills last week. We had motivation prompting us to do so with my husband’s surgery scheduled. He had never been under anesthesia before, so as a precaution he wanted a will in place - just in case. Having been regaled of horror stories by friends, family members, and colleagues settling estate issues after a loved one has passed away, provided additional motivation.
Writing a will is not something that should be rushed, and you probably should consult with an attorney, however you can start the process on your own, with plenty of online sites offereing automated template software inlcuding legalzoom.com and legacywriter.com . We settled on using a free MS Word template, that I found on microsoft.com , that was pretty comprehensive. In addition to various will templates, they also had a template for a living will directive to physicians.

It was a relief to put final our wishes in writing, and it was interesting planning our own funerals. My husband and I both included specific locations of ceremonies to be held. I specified songs to be played at my ceremony and we both specified locations for our ashes to be spread.
