    My stages of grief

(this is reminding me of when Adam Vinatieri was traded to the Colts!)

SHOCK and DENIAL - I Immediately began to panic! I thought, “there must be some mistake!” After all, I’m a member of the fan club. A PREMIUM MEMBER at that! A status that cost me $47.00! I joined the fan club for the sole purpose to be able to access the presale tickets. I was a good fan, I’d check my email daily for presale ticket information for the September 22, 2007 Tweeter Center in Mansfield, MA. I had received emails for other Toby Keith presale information for other shows on the tour. So there had to be a mistake!

I found the link on ticketmaster announcing that the pre-sale began on June 12th at 10:00 am and that you needed a Target code. WTF?

VOLATILE REACTIONS - After having a momentary breakdown and throwing a few things around in my cubicle, I managed to suppress my tears for a moment only to fire off an email to the fan club:

I paid $47.00 to join the Toby Keith fan club. I want a full refund. I’m willing to ship back my t-shirt and CD that I received. I was promised presale ticket information. I’ve been checking my email every day for presale ticket information for Toby Keith’s Show scheduled on September 22, 2007 at 7:00 pm in Mansfield, Mass. I never received an email. I have received emails about other pre-sales ticket information on his tour.

When looking at ticketmaster’s website this morning I see that there has been a pre-sale for these tickets happening since last Tuesday, June 12, 2007. See link below to see what I’m talking about.

http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/01003EC8D7A09F02?artistid=762365&majorcatid=10001&minorcatid=2

What is the deal? That is so unfair. I can’t believe I’ve been checking every day and now I don’t have a password to buy tickets. I would have carved time out in my very busy schedule to make sure that I had logged on first thing when they went on sale at 10:00 am on June 12. As far as I’m concerned, I joined the fan web site and paid an extra $47.00, to be guaranteed the presale ticket opportunity!

I’m so sad right now. I’m on the verge of tears. I’m very upset.

I’ve been advertising Toby’s tour on my website mandymag.com I’ve written rave review articles about Toby’s last tour and about his restaurant in Vegas. Sadly now I’m going to have to write a very different type of article.

DISORGANIZATION AND DESPAIR - I feel like I’ve been heartbroken. I feel like I’ve been taken for a ride.

I found out that the way to get the presale code is to purchase a copy of Toby Keith’s new cd, Big Dog Daddy, at Target. Had I known this last week, prior to the presale beginning, I would have gone out to my local Target and purchased the CD for 10 bucks and got myself a presale code, however, I was under the foolish impression that paying $47.00 for a “PREMIUM FAN CLUB MEMBERSHIP” would have guaranteed me that presale information. I could have saved $37.00 and applied that to my ticket purchase as well as had the special DVD that comes with the Big Dog Daddy cd in stores. To my dismay all I got was the “Warrior Edition” of Toby’s CD, which means no DVD! :(

Toby Keith’s fan club was the first I ever joined in my life. I feel so let down. I will not be going to his concert in September, nor will I continue to promote his CD, tour, or Toby himself on my site. There is no excuse for this treatment of greatest fans.

REORGANIZATION
- As mad as I am, I’ve spent the day searching on google for any clue as to what a valid presale code may be. I’m not going to bother buying another CD from Target, because the presale is 7 days in at this point. If I could find a code for free, I would poke around to see if there were still any seats worth getting, but at this point I doubt it.

I know that people are always quick to point out that it isn’t the celebrity who is to blame, but promoters, agents, etc. FORGET THAT - I HOLD TOBY KEITH PERSONALLY ACCOUNTABLE!

Response from the fan club today:

I’m sorry you are upset. Let me explain the presale ticket information to you. Each ticket outlet receives a batch of tickets.(ie: Target, Ticketmaster, MusicToday) They decide when to put them on presale. Ticketmaster apparently put their tickets on presale earlier then us. Each outlet gets seating that is mixed so there is still an opportunity to get premier seating through TobyKeith.com. You should still receive and email advertising presale tickets for your area. Also, keep an eye on the website. Sign in, click on “fans” then on “presale tix” to get to the list of dates for presale. It is still quite a ways into the future so presale shouldn’t be right away. Once again, you will still have the opportunity to get premier seating through Toby’s site. Thank you for your patience, and I hope this helps.

    Thanks,
    Jason

My response to the fan club’s email above:

    Hi Jason,

Thank you for your prompt response. I’ll be sure to add it as a comment on my blog posting about this today. http://www.mandymag.com/?p=234.

Unfortunately, I still feel that it was unfair to give people who purchased a $9.99 copy of the CD, first stab over fans. However, if you are telling me that the presale tickets for good seats will still be available to me, that could be as good as the Target presale tickets, then, I’m less upset now.

I still feel that the mix of presale tickets offered to several organizations including Target, Tickemaster, and Music Today, are not fair to the fan club. If an organization is offering $47.00 a year fan club membership fees, they should also be offering and should also guarantee the best seats and the first seats through any presale.

Another response from Jason at Toby’s Fan Club:

I understand your concerns. I agree that fans should have priority. However, Target and Ticketmaster are HUGE companies and the venues have to distribute to them. Business as usual.

    Thanks again,

    Jason

My response to Jason’s last response:

    Hi Jason,

I’m not sure I agree there. I’m sure Toby Keith has some say in who can sell his tickets. It is all about the almighty dollar. You’re right it is huge companies and huge promoters and everyone is getting rich, except me! ;)

I guess it is just the way things are now. Remember the good old days, when true fans could camp out for great affordable seats? :)

    Thanks again for your response!

GO DEE!! GO DEE!!! GO DEE!!!!! :-)
As an elderly woman that I befriended many years ago (God rest her soul) used to tell me - “the squeaky wheel gets the grease!”
Dee, you’re about the squeakiest wheel on the Toby Fan Club axel today and I think this Jason needs to throw you a can of Toby WD-40! :-) (that would be in the form of free FRONT ROW CENTER tickets - for you and ALL your friends, ahem, NATURALLY, :-) as well as back stage passes!) NOW THAT WOULD MAKE UP FOR ANY WRONG DOINGS - intentional or not!! Don’t ‘cha tink? ;-) SQUEEK,SQUEEK, SQUEEK!!!!!

The pre-sale for the Tweeter Center for Mansfile, MA, has NOT happened yet, for the fanclub. It will be in a few weeks.

WOW!~ I cannot believe this excuse they are giving for letting Target have first shot at Toby tickets. I - like you - purchased the platinum package and I promise this will be the last time I do! Toby is playing a smaller venue out here in SO CAL than usual so seats will be extremely hard to come by and so as far as I am concerned there is no excuse for what has happened. Don’t tell me that the fan club did not know these tickets were going on sale! What should have happened is that the fan club should have put their seats on sale the week prior to the cd being released - that is what should have happened! I too hold MR. KEITH responsible as he should make sure his Warriors come first! It is bad enough that invaribly the best seats end up in the hands of ticket agencies who want to charge prices the average fan cannot afford now we get shafted by own fan club!!!!!
