My Kentucky Derby Day

Minus the $60.00 in my purse, the lack of mint juleps and ridiculously large brimmed hats (with the exception of one guy in wearing a Sombrero in honor of Cinco de Mayo) I still had a great Kentucky Derby day.

I always say that I have street smarts, however today I had neither street smarts or street sense! Even when the horse “Street Sense” gave me pause, I neglected to put any money on him. Well with 9-2 odds can you blame me? I instead put $10.00 on 6 long shots to win; Storm in May, Imawildandcrazyguy (boy that’s a mouthful!), Liquidity, Bwana Bull, Scat Daddy, and Stormello, in hopes that one would hit. So I tried to hedge my bets to no avail!

One of the best things about living in New Hampshire is I get to live where people vacation and play. So, like a tourist I played all day today. First went to breakfast at the Tilton Diner; then to see Spirderman 3 (it rocked!); then to pick out light fixtures at Lowes (okay so that was the only non-play thing I did all day); then to the dog track in Belmont, NH to put a bet on the Kentucky Derby while enjoying a Corona and Sombrero drink; followed by Chinese Food and a Scorpion Bowl at Szechuan Garden (why not Chinese Food and a Scorpion bowl on Cinco de Mayo?).

Today marked the first time in my life, I’ve ever been to a track, and the first time to ever bet on a horse. Even at the ripe old age of 37, there is still excitement and firsts to be had! The only way today would have been more exciting, was if my 47 to 1 odds horse won, however, you can’t have it all.
